IOTTAALS DNIVIØ HTIWWEIVRETN88WITH THE SCREW AS JEWELRY & NARRATIVEIn designer Øivind Slaatto’s chair for Magnus Olesen, a sustainable idea has become the chair’s visual distinctiveness. A single brass screw acts at once as the chair’s characteristic jewelery and at the same time holds all components together, so that everything can be easily disassembled, replaced and reused. - We can not continue to make things that are thrown out again. This chair is designed to be part of an entire life cycle. Its components are assembled with one screw, which means that it is easy to replace the individual parts. We have really tried to consider that we must take care of the resources that we have, explains Øivind Slaatto. The chair was designed with the desire to make a chair that is as sustainable as possible. - Making a chair that is assembled with one screw is naive, and we did not know if it could be done at all. We had to do a lot of tests. This project has only been possible because I have been able to draw on the experience that Magnus Olesen has. I have been able to talk in detail with all the quiet geniuses at the factory in Denmark, and we have had a close dialogue. That is why it turned out so good. It is a hybrid of youthful daring and many years of experience, says Øivind Slaatto. - I try to make things natural: What is the nature in a chair? It is all about sitting. It is a body that must sit in it. The chair must follow the body and support it. We have tried to make it obvious. It should not be a wow- experience, but what you do must make sense, says Øivind Slaatto.
